Mui Ne Beach

For some of the best Vietnam resorts head to Mui Ne beach, located 250km from Ho Chi Minh City on the South China Sea. The resort strip has some fine stretches of white sandy beach spread along 10km of road. It has a chilled out ‘surfie’ vibe, although there are an increasing number of up market restaurants and souvenir shops. The food, like everywhere in Vietnam, is cheap and teeth-grindingly good. Mui Ne is protected by sand dunes creating a unique microclimate and even in the wet season, from June to September, rains tend to be fairly light and sporadic.
Recreation
Mui Ne gets the waves and surf’s up from August to December. For windsurfers and kite surfers, the gales howl from late October to April. There are also jeep tours to the enormous red and white sand dunes and Fairy Springs or you can head west to visit Po Shanu Cham Towers, 9th century ruins with a pagoda and gallery. Of course if you are into inertia, you can always splash about in the water.
Getting there
Mui Ne is a four to five hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City. Inner Journey Expeditions can arrange private vehicle transfers for around AUD$150 each way from your hotel in HCMC or from HCMC Tan Son Nhat international airport.
